Local coordination and market equilibria

چکیده

We reformulate the local stability analysis of market equilibria in a competitive market as a local coordination problem in a market game, where the map associating market prices to best-responses of all traders is common knowledge and well-defined both in and out of equilibrium. Initial expectations over market variables differ from their equilibrium values and are not common knowledge. This results in a coordination problem as traders use the structure of the market game to converge back to equilibrium. We analyse a simultaneous move and a sequential move version of the market game and explore the link with local rationalizability. r 2003 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved. Innovation, market structure and the holdup problem: investment incentives and coordination

I analyze the innovation incentives under monopoly and duopoly provision of horizontally differentiated products purchased via bilateral negotiations, integrating the market structure and innovation literature with the holdup literature. I show that competition can improve local incentives for non-contractible investment. Because innovation levels are generally strategic substitutes, however, t...

Coordination of pricing and cooperative advertising for perishable products in a two-echelon supply chain: A bi-level programming approach

In this article the coordination of pricing and cooperative advertising decisions in one-manufacturer one-retailer decentralized supply chain with different market power for channel members is studied. The products are both perishable and substitutable. The problem is modeled as a nonlinear bi-level programming problem to consider both retailer and manufacturer decisions about prices and advert...

Contingent Uncertainty, Strategic Uncertainty, and Coordination

Uncertainty about the coordination of common efforts (e.g. team projects, alliances) often coexists with uncertainty about other variables (e.g. weather, market fluctuations, political instability). In certain coordination games in which equilibria can potentially arise at any common effort level, ex ante equilibrium selection (particularly of high-effort, high-payoff equilibria) has been a per...

Coordination of Information Sharing and Cooperative Advertising in a Decentralized Supply Chain with Competing Retailers Considering Free Riding Behavior

This paper studies a decentralized supply chain in which a manufacturer sells a common generic product through two traditional and online retailers under free riding market. We assume that the traditional retailer provides the value added services but the online retailer does not. Factors such as retail prices, local advertising of the retailers, global advertising of the manufacturer and servi...

Social Network Effects on Coordination A Laboratory Investigation

Does social network structure influence coordination? We examine a coordination game in which each player engages with an exogenously connected “local” subset of the player population, the pattern of links defining a social network. Players know the number of local links they possess but otherwise have incomplete information about the global network structure. All networks in our experiment hav...
